The Reverend John Ohmer

The Rev. John Ohmer joined the Falls Church Episcopal as our Rector in September of 2012, after having led the growing, vibrant congregation of St. James’ Episcopal Church in Leesburg, Virginia for the past 13 years. During his years of ordained ministry, John has served on the Board of Directors of Samaritan Ministry for the Homeless in Washington D.C., and on the Diocese of Virginia’s Commission on Ministry and Resolutions Committee. He has authored a weekly column titled “Faithfully Yours,” and has covered the past four General Conventions as an issues writer for the Diocese of Virginia’s “Center Aisle.” He blogs at Unapologetic Theology.

Nina Bacas
Director of Children's, Youth and Family Ministries

Nina Bacas grew up in San Diego where she earned a B.A. in Math and Psychology from the University of California, San Diego.  She went on to earn an M.S. in Computer Science from Drexel University while pursuing a career in aerospace.  After the birth of their fourth child, Nina (pronounced "ny-nah") and her husband, Andy, discovered her true calling to be in children's and youth Christian formation and the Episcopal Church.

Nina comes to us with a wealth of skills and experience from multiple parish settings, and will graduate from the Virginia Theological Seminary in 2014 with an M.A. in Christian Formation.  She is a Virginia Diocesan Coordinator for Episcopal Relief and Development and has made mission visits to Tanzania, Haiti and Belize.  Nina successfully mentored the youth-led Bishops' NetsForLife Inspiration Fund campaign in the Diocese of Virginia, raising funds in 2011-12 to send 14,500 anti-malarial bed nets to sub-Saharan Africa.

Nina's approach to faith formation involves engaging the imagination of our young people, supporting their unique God-given gifts, and incorporating them into all aspects of our faith community.  In her programs, children and youth are valued theologians and active agents in our parish.
